FAQs Long Range RFID Tags

What is the operating frequency of the OUTDOOR series tags?

The OUTDOOR series tags operate at either the RAIN RFID frequency range of 902-928 MHz for US frequency version, 865-868 MHz for the EU frequency version, or 860-960 MHz for Global frequency version.

What RFID readers work with the OUTDOOR series?

The OUTDOOR series tags are all standard passive UHF (Ultra High Frequency) tags that comply with EPCglobal Gen2v2 and ISO 18000-63 standards, also referred to as RAIN RFID.

A wide range of fixed and handheld RFID readers is available, with frequencies and antenna polarization matching the tags’ to ensure compatibility and optimal performance.

Can passive RFID be long range?

Passive RFID technology typically operates at shorter ranges compared to active RFID systems, as it relies on the energy transmitted by the RFID reader to power the RFID tag.

However, the range of passive RFID systems can be extended with optimized RFID tags such as the Xerafy OUTDOOR series.

What is the longest range RFID reader?

When it comes to RFID readers, more power means more range, with fixed readers achieving longer ranges than battery-power handheld readers.

The range of a passive RFID system can be increased by using a higher-power reader or by using specialized antennas such as phased array antennas or patch antennas. These antennas can help to focus the RFID signal in a particular direction and increase the range of the system.

Another way to increase the range of passive RFID systems is to use a larger RFID tag antenna. A larger antenna will receive more energy from the reader, allowing the tag to respond at longer distances.
